Tourism and things to do in the area

If you simply want to chill out and relax, or enjoy a fabulous fun filled family adventure, there's no shortage of things to do in North Yorkshire. Yorkshire is friendly and relaxing, and full of simple pleasures, nostalgic delights and great value indulgence. Why not explore the beauty of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, either by car, on foot, or by bicycle?

The East Coast is full of wonderful places to visit. Scarborough, Whitby, Runswick Bay, Robin Hoods Bay and Filey are all within driving distance from The Old Lodge.

Scarborough, Helmsley, Pickering and Richmond all have Castles to explore.  Whitby Abbey and Rievaulx Abbey are close by and loads of ancient villages and houses in the region such as Castle Howard.

York is a great travel destination and is only a 25-minute train ride from The Old Lodge. It's full of ancient history and charm, plus there are dozens of restaurants and hundreds of great shops to explore. There are many year-round events to enjoy too. Why not go for a river boat ride, visit Clifford’s Tower or York Minster.

Castle Howard, Yorkshire Lavender, Eden Camp, Sledmere and Flamingo Land are all well within an easy (15 minutes or less) drive, as are the beautiful towns of Pickering and Helmsley. There are many lovely Golf courses close to The Old Lodge.

York, Wetherby, Ripon and Thirsk racecourses offer a great day out. In addition to the North York Moors Railway, there is a super local rail and bus network- the stations ten minutes stroll from us. Malton bus station is opposite the railway station. The Coastliner is a regular dedicated bus from the coast to Leeds, which runs through Malton. It runs regularly throughout the day.
